Taking a Break (Sort Of…)

I have been taking a break from posting and and updating my projects on Double Black Design so that I may focus on going back to college to get a M.S. Software Engineering (and the registration nightmare that was) as well as moving my home made website design for the Sunman Rural Fire Department to use Wordpress!

Back to School…

I have been out of college for almost 6 years now and for some strange reason I decided to go back. I obtained a B.S. Electrical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology back in 2002 and now I am attempting to obtain an M.S. Software Engineering from Drexel University (online). I will also be holding down a full-time job developing medical electronics and software, volunteering on the Sunman Rural Fire Department, working as a contract engineer for a Canadian company, working on Double Black Design projects, and trying to find time for my family and friends. Wish me luck!

Website Port to Wordpress

Last year I developed a website for my local fire department (of which I am a member). I didn’t know too much about web development at that time but I was fairly fluent in HTML, CSS, and Javascript so I developed the website from scratch using only Notepad and a highly modified version of a CSS template I found online. It was a lot of fun and I learned quite a bit about web development and design along the way. However, I decided to make to the website more powerful and easier to update by non-tech’s so I planned to move the website design to Wordpress. So far, I have successfully ported the theme and re-created most of the templates for the various sections used throughout the website. I am currently attempting to utilize the Custom Write Panel plugin to create the Personnel, Apparatus, and Equipment sections so that each entry within these sections will have a common look and feel.

Feel free to browse the Sunman Rural Fire Department’s website and let me know what you think.
